To the Person who Never Attended the Chapel:

These tapes are the result of a 20 year ministry raised up by God to teach the Word of God to the people of God. As God always does, he chose imperfect vessels to accomplish this task. The main teacher in these tapes is Don Barnett; the man who was our pastor. Don is a gifted teacher who was able to clearly explain very difficult areas in the scriptures and give us an overall understanding of the tenor of God's book. But Don was not perfect. He was a sinner like the rest of us and his weaknesses found him out. But it should be no surprise that God's ministers are weak men who, but for the grace of God, would all fall.

Bottom line: Don't take Don's teachings as the infallible truth. Search these matters out and see if they be so. I guarantee you will be blessed. And if you simply cannot see something as truth, don't accept it. That's all anyone can be expected to do.

Most ex-Chapel members would agree that its teaching was one of the strongest areas of our church. Most would also agree that we had our "issues". There was overcontrol and spiritual abuse to name a couple of bad areas. In the end, we went against our own vision and pursued experience over the Word. We were not perfect and neither were our leaders. Finally, the church came apart at the seams. So don't emulate us.

But I would encourage you to give the messages in the library a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.

To the former Chapel Member:

In the last month, I've been thanked by folks in Australia for the teaching tapes.... and advised by a former Chapel leader to deep six the tapes... and while you're at it, trash your Bible college notes too.

Those of us working on this project realize that there is good and bad. But our opinion is that there is good teaching in these tapes worthy of preservation and use by all. Concerning the bad, there are many mitigating factors:

1) We intend to be discerning. The entire subject of spiritual connections will NOT be included in the library for download.

2) Other factors in the tapes that some have concern about -- I don't think will have the same effect on the average downloader. Probably the biggest factor for all of us ex-Chaps is that WE WERE THERE. Being there meant we were a captive audience. There were innumerable social pressures that pushed us to take Don's every word as infallible truth. There were innumerable pressures that made it practically impossible to say no, or to be objective or simply free to think things out for ourselves. The average downloader has complete control over what comes out of their computer speakers. And the average non-Chapel listener is quite skeptical. And I think one is better off listening to a teacher, then searching out the matter -- rather than just avoiding the teacher and trying to get the same level of understanding on their own.

Bottom line for me: Don was a good teacher given to us by God. And many of us have some incredible stories about how God brought us to the Chapel. So I think those who would deep six everything that came out of the Chapel are slapping God in the face and denigrating a ministry that was raised up to teach US. Where is God in this picture?
