Evaluation of Sectarian Doctrines, Sem. 2 This course examines the history, organization, practices, and beliefs of many contemporary religious movements. Several large organizations, such as Roman Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Christian Science, are scrutinized in detail. Other movements investigated include: Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church, Herbert W. Armstrong’s Worldwide Church of God, L. Ron Hubbard’s Church of Scientology, The Unitarian Universalist Association, The Unity School of Christianity, The Way International, Black Muslims, and The Bahai Faith. The teachings of British-Israelism are also summarized and compared with Scripture. Students are trained to refute the false doctrines promulgated by these and other movements by using carefully prepared Scriptural rebuttals to the essential errors of each group and the inconsistencies and statements contrary to the Bible found within their own literature. 6 credits. Prerequisite: four semesters. |
